The Power of Three

Did you know the number three holds a significant place in human behavior and our history?

The number three symbolises creativity, growth, and manifestation, making it a powerful force in our lives.

When we were developing our coaching school we came to the name Trilateral Dynamics as we felt it truly embodied our purpose in providing personal and professional development coaching.

We are DYNAMIC in everything we do at our school: we are full of energy and constantly in motion moving forward with our techniques, our attitudes and our approach to life and our clients.

AND, the term “TRILATERAL” refers to something having three sides or three parts - in human culture and history, the number three holds a special place as a symbol of completeness, balance, and stability. From religion to science, art, and sports, the number three has played a crucial role in shaping our understanding of the world.

The number three also symbolizes growth and development. Just as a seed grows into a sprout, and a sprout grows into a mature plant, the number three represents a process of growth and transformation. In many spiritual traditions, the idea of a triad of stages or steps is used to represent this process.

Significance of Three...

Religion and Spirituality: In many religious and spiritual traditions, the number three is considered sacred. In Christianity, the Holy Trinity represents the three aspects of God as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In Hinduism, the Trimurti represents the three aspects of the supreme deity, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Ancient Egyptian religion also recognised three major gods, Ra, Osiris, and Horus.

Triplicity and the Triune Nature of Reality: The number three symbolizes triplicity and the triune nature of reality. Many spiritual traditions view the world as having three aspects or components that come together to create a whole, and the trinity represents three entities that are equal and interconnected. The number three is often associated with growth and development, and in many spiritual traditions, the idea of a triad of stages or steps represents this process.

Sacredness: The number three is considered a sacred number in many spiritual traditions, and many rituals and prayers are performed in threes. For example, in Christianity, many rituals and prayers are performed in threes, and in Hinduism, many rituals and offerings are performed in multiples of three.

Popular Idioms and Sayings: The “Rule of Three” states that things that come in threes are more satisfying and effective. This is evident in popular idioms such as “third time lucky,” which embodies optimism and persistence.

Mathematics: In mathematics, three is considered the smallest number needed to create a pattern. Three dots in a row can form a straight line or a triangle, making the number three important in geometry and the study of shapes. Three lines can form a triangle, and three is also a key number in trigonometry.

Poetry and Music: In poetry and music, three is the perfect combination of brevity and rhythm. A trio of lines or syllables can create a satisfying rhythm and balance, while being short enough to be easily memorable. Three-note phrases and chord progressions are common in music, providing a sense of structure and balance.

Science: The number three appears in many different areas of science. For example, the periodic table is arranged into groups of three and periods of three. There are three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. There are also three types of bonds between atoms: covalent, ionic, and metallic.

Sports: In sports, the number three is significant in many games. In basketball, a three-pointer is a shot taken from beyond the three-point line and is worth three points. In American football, a field goal is worth three points. In cricket, three wickets in a row result in a hat-trick, a rare and remarkable feat for a bowler. We reward and recognise the first three places in sports and competitions of all kinds.
